FEES
You are here: Company > Fees
The way in which we calculate our fees is simple and straightforward.
We do not generally charge for initial consultations where there is a genuine intention to proceed with a real project. We are always happy to talk to potential clients without obligation and we find this gives clients an opportunity to meet us and decide whether they wish to proceed with us or not.
Once a definite project has been established and the work can be reasonably estimated we will normally offer a fixed fee for our services, having incorporated a reasonable assessment of the time we expect any given project to require. Obviously significant changes to our instructions or in the form or extent of the project are excluded, as are significant changes of mind on behalf of the client. The main exceptions to this arrangement are:
- 1. Contract Administration
This is always difficult to assess in terms of a fixed fee because the amount of work involved varies from project to project. For this reason we will generally quote a percentage fee based on the construction cost for this part of the project only. The design and tender work can sometimes still be accommodated within a previously agreed fixed fee.
- 2. Appraisal or Open-Ended Appointments
By necessity these types of appointments need to be charged for on a time basis. We will normally provide a schedule of current rates along with an agreement as to when fees will be charged. If possible we will endeavour to cap or peg the overall charge at a point beyond which we will not go without further instructions from the client.
Fees normally become payable upon completion of agreed stages of work, typically when planning or building regulations drawings are complete and ready to be submitted for approval. Contract Administration fees are levied at regular intervals, normally monthly as work proceeds. Other fees are chargeable by specific agreement. Our normal terms of business require payment within 14 days of the date of the account.
