MEASURED BUILDING SURVEYS
You are here: Services > Architectural Design > Measured Building Surveys
When working with existing buildings or structures, one of the first things we do is perform a measured building survey.
At Parsons & Whittley we see this as a very important process, because it allows us to measure the building or site as it currently exists, and prepare the relevant plans. Work can then proceed on the basis of accurate measurements and detailed internal and external drawings.
As well as being required by Local Planning Authorities or Building Control, these plans are also essential to enable a clear and accurate assessment to be made of the possibilities for conversion or alteration.
The preparation of 'plans as existing' is quite time consuming and a large part of any fee proposals for this type of work is taken up in the measuring and preparation of the plans, regardless of whether it is for a small residential project or a large scale commercial development.
We do not like to rely on plans prepared by others and will generally prefer to take our own measured survey. If we do use plans provided by others we will always qualify our subsequent work in this respect.
